Y.O.U. Summer Time News Update
By Autumn Clark and Jenny Wasil
Hello beautiful church goers! We are very thankful for your support and love.
We just recently came back from our annual Bi-Regional Rally. Bi-Regi is the largest rally of the year because two regions, South and Central, come together to experience growth and spirituality.
The theme of ’Bi-Regi 2010’ was: "Here! Now!"
We spent four days practicing the idea that there's no better place than here, and no better time than now, and that with mindfulness the here and now are always accessible to us. Among so many other things, we went river rafting, did Dances of Universal Peace, and small-group activities and discussions about the theme.A "Mindfulness Chime" sounded at random times throughout the event, and no matter what we were doing, all 250 of us quieted and centered in gratitude before continuing on with whatever we had been doing. Another favorite part was a 5-minute You Tube video with Bob Newhart called "Stop It!" Here's the link It’s very funny and such a great lesson! Two big events that occur at the Bi-Regi are a graduation for the seniors and an election for the incoming regional officers, aka ‘Regis’. There are four ’Regis’ a year, two from south and two from central, who plan and lead rallies that year. At this Bi-Regi, Nathan Todd and Autumn Clark from our Colorado Springs chapter ran for regional office. Autumn said: “The experience Nate and I went through was intense and virtually unexplainable. I believe we grew more from running for Regi than we have at any other event. I am proud to say that Nate was elected to be one of the Central Regis for this next year. This next regional team will do a fantastic job and I see us all spiritually growing in a huge way this year.” We are all very proud of both Autumn and Nate, who stepped up to serve their region in this way and so excited for Nate this coming year. In addition to regional elections, Amanda Wasil, Ashlee Hodge and Lena McDonald graduated from Y.O.U. at Bi-Regi. They were all very dedicated to our chapter and they are moving on to bigger adventures in their lives...Congratulations!
Note to Our Unity Adults:
We are still looking for a few Children’s Ministry
Volunteers to make our team complete.
Please contact Cathy Duryea at 719-287-1416; or Cathy2016@aol.com if you are interested in assisting or teaching in any of the classes.
Note to Parents & Guardians:
You can spend quality time with your own child by volunteering one Sunday a month in your child’s class. Try It, You’ll like it! And so will your child. Just ONE Sunday a month will make a difference.
Important Notice to Parents:
Please Don’t FORGET to Register your child for this year 2009/2010 in our Youth & Children’s Ministry program (ages 3-18). We need to have the correct contact and other pertinent information to better serve your family. If you have already done this, THANK YOU!
TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
There are also opportunities to share your light and your gifts by being a teacher (sign up for one or more Sundays a month). If this calls to you, please see Cathy Duryea, or email: Cathy2016@aol.com, phone 719-520-1657. No experience is necessary and all curriculum is provided!
NOTE: If you have been serving as a helping hand, it may be time to step up to serve as a teacher.
S t r e t c h yourself! Step out of your comfort zone -- IT’S FUN!
BE A “GUEST” TEACHER!
You may have something special to teach and would like to share it with the children as a one time thing. Or quarterly, or something like that. If this calls to you see Cathy, Sundays at the Kid's House or call.....
Meditation Room
The little prayer room in the back of the Kid’s House has a new look and feel. This room is for everyone in our church family. You are invited to come over any time and step into the beautiful energy of our Meditation room. You may sit in silence, or if you desire, you may do a prayer activity. This quarter, is a Prayer-cord activity. You may choose a cloth prayer-tie, offer a prayer, then tie the cloth to a prayer cord hanging there. The Kid’s House is usually open from about 8:45 until 12:45 every Sunday.
Our Nursery in the church building, the Uni-Tot room at the Kid’s House, and Meditation Room at the Kid’s House all have beautiful new artwork on the walls, thanks to Abbey Stohs (w/ the help of her sweetie Preston). We are grateful to them for creating a heartfelt and beautiful environment for our lil’ ones and for all of us.
Uni-Tots Happenings
Spending Sunday mornings with the Uni-tots is a delightful experience, not unlike stepping into “heaven on earth” for an hour.
Come share your “LIGHT” with these cherubs once or twice a month at 11:00. You won’t regret it! Speak to Cathy or call her at 719-287-1416 or email her at Cathy2016@aol.com..
We play, sing, pray, create, explore and meditate. All, while learning about God in us, in everyone and in the world. What a beautiful and sweet and joyous age to be!
Most of our Uni-tots can’t wait to get back to class each Sunday. And we, as teachers and “Helping Hands,” find it a blessing to spend this hour in their precious energy. Come see for yourself! Sign up to be a ‘Helping Hand’ one or more Sundays a month.
Uni-Kids Happenings
The Uni-kids have completed 2009 with Holiday lessons and begun 2010 with a releasing activity/ceremony and an experience of painting their dreams for the coming year. This past month we continued our regular Unity curriculum, recent unit about “family.” All the lessons include prayer and/or meditation, a story, and sharing time and a creative expression activity. All the lessons connect with a Unity principle and a weekly affirmation.
We welcome anyone who would like to join our Youth & family ministry team as a “Helping Hand” or Teacher. Don’t miss this soul warming opportunity to give of yourself. Be a blessing, and Be blessed in return!
Uni-teen News
The Uni-teen group is well into it’s series on the Sermon on the Mount. We have been blessed with good attendance and look forward to continuing our study of the ‘spiritual keys’ that help us create and manifest a better world according to the principles set out by Jesus our Wayshower.
We are looking at the possibility of attending a Uni-teen retreat in Kansas the end of April. Your kids will be giving you more information as it becomes available.
We could use assistance at least one Sunday per month, to give our Uni-teen Leader a well deserved break and to add to the wonderful energy already present in the class. By volunteering to teach even one time a month, you may be blessed more than you can imagine. As always, you are welcome to come visit our class and be amazed at the understanding, beyond their years, that our class possesses. Come and check it out!
Y.O.U. HighLIGHTS
We congratulate our newly elected Y.O.U. Leadership Team 2009 - 2010: Ashlee Hodge, Asha Hidalgo, Nate Todd, and Amanda Wasil. We love you. We Bless you. We truly appreciate you. And we behold the Christ in you. Namaste. We look forward to honoring them in front of their church family at an upcoming Installation Ceremony.
Winter Rally 2010, which is facilitated by our own Y.O.U. is finally here and will be held Feb. 5th thru the 7th!
Please hold a HIGH Vision of our youth as they complete the planning of this amazing rally experience, and as they host and facilitate this rally the 1st weekend in February. We are so proud of the tireless and passionate work of the planning team in creating curriculum for family groups, workshops, and large group activities such as dances of Universal Peace, Taize, Spiral Om’s and more.
This will be hosted at Golden Bell Camp and Conference center in Divide Colorado, and will have approximately 125 kids and sponsors from 8 different states.
What a great leadership experience and spiritual journey this has been for all our Y.O.U.ers. We are so proud of them!
